I bought the deck jig

"I bought the deck jig to complete a small deck project because I didnt want screws showing. I also bought the accompanying stainless steel screws. It worked well, for the most part. I wish the jig was a bit sturdier. There is some flex in the plastic which can affect alignment if you're not careful. Also, the screws will strip easily.... a fact that was very surprising to me.... so be extra careful when driving."

For what it is advertised

"For what it is advertised to do, it'd fine, but for me it slowed me down. I build/rebuild several decks per year and time is money of course. Having a jig that requires drilling, screwing, placing spacers then moving it all down a bit then doing it all over takes too much time. With a crew, maybe if you had 2 maybe 3 jigs might be the answer. We also noticed the screw bit wore out very quickly and I tried a couple of stores that sold Kreg products and they did not stock this bit and none of our bits fit the screw head."

I invested in this jig

"I invested in this jig for a small project. I built some wrap around stairs for a small deck platform we have on our patio. I used radius edge composite deck boards from the green box store. It worked perfectly! No visible screws!"

Q&A

Is this jig getting deleted?
Yes, the Deck Jig is discontinued.
Are the holes in the guide the same as other kreg products?
Yes, there are drill guide that guide the drill bit when drilling the holes and driver bit for driving the screws
I have a couple of questions about Trex composite deck boards and using your deck jig and fasteners. I'm buying Trex Enhance Basic composite deck boards (square, not grooved) but the bottom of the Trex boards are not flat, the board have channels running the length of each board. Can you tell me if the design of the Kreg deck jig drilling and fastening deck boards would be compatible with the Trex channel bottom deck boards? Which fastener would be compatible with a composite deck board?
The Deck Jig will only work with the squared edges. If it has a groove down the edge, the jig will not work.
Decks: how many screws are needed per meter of each board, considering hard wood boards? Screws are placed in both sides of the board? or just in one of its sides? Which is the minimum space between boards in order to place screws from both sides?
There will be a screw on each side of the board on each joist along the whole board.
Has this jig been discontinued? If so, is a replacement/upgrade coming out?
Yes, the Deck Jig has been discontinued.
Will this work with composite boards with scalloped backs?
It will work with composite with that type of back that also has the straight edges and not grooved edges.
Will this work with a composite tongue and groove decking. What they call porch decking.
No, this will only work on straight edged lumber.
Hello! Can the two outside screw hole guides be repositioned to face inward, toward the middle screw? I'm looking to screw top and bottom horizontal deck railing 2x6 planks into 6x6 posts.
No, they are fixes at the angle they are on the jig.
Can this be used on Ipe or cumaru T&G decking? Only one side of the board would need to be drilled.
No this can not be used with tongue and groove. The sides need to be straight.
I am using pressure treated 1"x6" deck boards. With the side mounted screw, what happened if and when the board shrink? Thanks
We do not recommend using this with pressure treaded lumber.
