Great budget mortise tool
"I purchased this tool for a budget mortise jig. I'm building a bed with 44 rails and wanted them to not have screws in the top and bottom. Once I got going with the set up I was able to get them done in a few hours. Much more work to come, but this was a great start."

"The MortiseMate works great . I did have some issues. The metal face wasn't perpendicular to the wooden base. I found that putting a clamp on the work piece and pulling it into the MortiseMate helped. I would suggest on the next version they thicken the side walls (where the adjustment is made) to accommodate a clamp head. The vacuum port got in my way when doing thick pieces, they should twist it out of the plane of the back. It would be nice to have a way to easily see when the mortise is finished."

Simple - Works
"Easy to assemble. Simple concept to understand. Easy set up. However nothing in the manual describes the reset button. You need to press it after each mortise. Had to look through a bunch of videos before I realized there was a reset button. Also, you can adjust the left-right width of the mortise and the depth but not the "up-down" size. Many Kreg tenons are slightly undersized. Vondriska says you ought to be able to pick up both pieces when they are dry-fit together. Generally can't so would like the ability to adjust tighter; shims are a nuisance. Since it moves . 050 inches closer each pass, you need 15 passes for a 3/4 inch deep mortise (8 left, 7 right for example). Keep track of how many you do because hard to tell for sure that the carriage is not moving forward anymore."
