Great concept, flawed execution

"I'm using this to build beaded face frames for a bathroom vanity and, soon, a full kitchen update. My first face frame for the vanity eventually came together, but there were a number of challenges that I think could be improved upon. First, the clamp is only somewhat useful. If you have any pieces that aren't at least 1. 5" tall, the clamp is worse than using it at all, as the "hand" on the clamp is too small and will ultimately cause the workpiece to pull back into the fence and tilt up, or the clamp will come lose with the vibration during cutting. I just stopped using the clamp and now just use my hand and I've been having a lot more success. Perhaps an even bigger issue, however, is the amount of slop in the fence stop. It is simply unacceptable that the stop should deflect so much. If you so happen to put even the slightest pressure of the workpiece into the stop, you will miscut chamfers on your rails, causing a poor fit. That's even with tightening down the stop. The design is just bad and the slop is impossible to remove. You'll eventually figure out that you need to just "kiss" the stop and pull back 1/32" for a perfect chamfer, but that is not acceptable with an accessory that costs this much. A smaller issue is the movement of the fence with the handle that not feel nice and smooth and the instructions were poor on how to properly line up the handle for smooth actuation. Finally, the instructions are extremely poor about how to compute proper offsets for cutting. A formula or better explanation of the math required to do more elaborate layouts would have been very helpful. My vanity face frame has six drawers and one big center door, and I had to spend quite a lot of time trying to figure out exactly where to move the stop mark to get proper distances between the drawers. At the end of the day the tool enables you to do something extremely useful, so I'm happy with it in that sense, but I'm frustrated mostly at the slop in the stop."

Excellent quality and clearly as

"Excellent quality and clearly as Kreg claims, much easier to produce cabinets I don't do enough beaded face frames to justify large scale equipment and this kit works great. I can see where it would be justifiedable for someone to purchase this even for one small . project The price is outstanding."

great tool

"I find this to be a great tool for achieving beaded face frames. I made a beautiful face frame on my first attempt. Granted I am a custom cabinet maker by profession, and I assembled the frame on a Kreg 4x8 professional framing table, none the less the frame was perfect on my first attempt. I would think that the average diy weekend warrior would have a much larger learning curve but if you want great beaded frames then this is a great tool to add to your shop. I will be using it quite often as I will now be offering beaded frames to my customers"

Q&A

can you use the kreg table top router with this system?
You can use this with the full size router table but not the benchtop router table.
My t-slot is 6-3/8" from the center of the arbor. Is that close enough or does it need to be 6-1/4" exactly? Also, what does the size of the t-slot need to be. Mine is 3/4 x 1 x 3/8.
That will need to be 6-1/4" to let it work
Will this work with a woodpeckers router table
This will work with router tables that has a t-slot that is 6-1/4" center to center from the bit.
I am building a new router table/cabinet and wonder what the length of the fence is. I want to be certain I have a drawer sized to store it when not in use. Thank you
The fence will be 28" long.
Will this work with the bosch ra1181 router table?
No, that table is too small to support this unit.
Can you use this for cabinet doors also?
Yes, this can be used for face frames or doors.
Will this work on a cast iron router table? I have a sawstop router table and would love to add this tool to my system if it would work.
The System requires a t-track in the top that is centered 6¼″ from the center of the insert plate to center of that t-track.
I bought the product and it came with a CD. My computer does not have a CD player. Are the videos and content available somewhere else? Thanks
We currently do not have any how-to videos on this system.
2 questions - is this system compatible with a kreg bench top router table? Can it make a beaded edge with mortise and tenon doors?
The Face Frame System will not work with the Benchtop. You will need to have a t-track that is 6-1/4" center to center from the bit to the t-track and the benchtop does not have a t-track.
