Deck Screw review

"The deck screws were used on trex decking. I used the longer screws than recommended because we are in snow and ice country and the freeze and thaw pulled or broke other screws in the past. They worked well with the Kreg jig kits. The side angle attachment looks very clean and attractive. The only issue was that the one supplied bit got warn before finishing the 500 plus screw pack, and 2 bits would have worked better."

Q&A

Exactly what do you mean by 2x decking screws? Because the next set of screws is the same screw but you get 1000 for just about the same price. Wouldn’t you call that 2 times instead of the first one? I haven’t looked at the details of the second container but they are both very similar in name it seems that they would be close in size and length.
2x Deck screws are for when you are using 2x deck boards. The screws itself are 2-5/8" long instead of the smaller 2" long ones.
Is there a max width 2x you recommend be used for decking using deck jig and 2 5/8 screws. With this work well with 2x12?
There is not max width for the use of the Deck Jigs.
Can the 1/4 “ gap be smaller, I’m using 2x6 fur and don’t want my gap to get bigger after the wood completely dries.
The minimum deck board spacing is 1/4″. If your spacing is less than 1/4″, the drill bit and screw can damage the adjacent board while being driven. The Deck Jig™ is not intended for use with deck boards that can shrink significantly after installation.
Are Protec-Kote screws acceptable for redwood and cedar decking?
These screws will work great with any type of decking.
What style of driver do your screws accept?
Kreg deck screws use a #1 KTX square driver. This special head gives you the strongest driving power and reduce the possibility of “cam-out”.
What lengths of Kreg Deck Jig™ screws are available?
Deck Screws are offered in two lengths. Choose the length based on the thickness of the decking material you are using: 2″ screws for 4/4 – 5/4 (3/4″- to 11/8″-thick) material or 25/8″ screws for “2x” (11/2″-thick) decking material.
What kind of Kreg Deck Screws are offered?
Deck Screws are available in two weather-resistant finishes: Protec-Kote™ and Stainless. Protec-Kote™ screws feature three anti-corrosion layers that protect against rusting in the majority of decking applications. They are a great choice for a wide variety of applications, including decks built with ACQ-treated framing. For even more protection, choose Stainless. Kreg Stainless Screws provide the best protection against corrosion in the long-term.
