Smooth Easy Tool

"I have used Festool Domino and loved it. But it is so expensive for a hobbiest. So, I was delighted to see Kreg’s entry into loose tenon joinery. I snapped one up at my local Woodcraft. I used it yesterday to create joint for a dining table. Wow! I love this tool! So easy and full proof tool! I watched several videos to learn how to use it. It turned out beautiful tenons and my table joints, eight of them, turned out great. Flat table top! I ended up using the medium setting to allow for movement. The glue up was nice and tight. There are so many projects that I have put off because of joints. Now I can tackle them all. I found I made a mistake with the joints being to tight. I just went back and changed the setting to the medium width and recut them! Wow weee!"

"I’m the target demographic on the Edge Loose Tenon Joiner. I’ve had my eye on the big one for a while, but was never comfortable with the price. Once I saw the Edge I signed up for early access, and when it was tired to order had it next day. Cuts true, easy to use, and clean mortises. I use mine with a dust collector, but I can see the benefit of just letting the chips fall so to speak. So far this is a tremendous winner."

Q&A

Are there multiple bit sizes available? If so, please advise the sizes as different bits for various tenons thickness, correct?
Yes, there is 5mm, 6mm, 8mm and 10 mm.
Can it do angled/miter joints?
Yes, we have preset stops at 0, 22.5°, 45°, 67.5°, and 90°. It can also be set to custom angles in between those preset stops.
Can the fence be changed to metric?
The Edge will come with imperial installed by the factory, but we've also included a metric height scale in the box that can be swapped by the user.
Does it come with a storage case?
It does not come with a case, but we’ve included a nice foam insert in the box that has room to hold the tool plus accessories and is sized to fit in common toolboxes. The Kreg Edge and foam insert will fit in the Systainer³ M 237 (Part number 204843 from Festool). For those who want to use this Systainer for the Kreg Edge, they'd need to cut a notch out of the bottom of the foam insert that is 1/2" x 1/2" on both sides. This will fit over a feature in the bottom of the Systainer.
Does the kit include a battery and charger?
Yes, the $499.99 kit includes the tool, battery and charger. It also includes a narrow stock guide, stabilizer base as well as a 6mm cutter and sample pack of tenons.
What type of projects use loose tenon joinery?
Loose tenon joints are ideal for applications where alignment is critical and you want the joinery method to be completely hidden when the project is finished. Common projects include: - Furniture (tables, chairs, cabinets) - Face frames - Panels and glue-ups - Doors
Are cutters and tenons interchangeable between machines?
Kreg Edge cutters are compatible with the Kreg Edge as well as the Festool Domino. Kreg loose tenons have been specifically designed to pair best with Kreg Edge cutters.
What sizes of loose tenons and cutters are available?
Kreg tenon sizes are 5 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm, and 10 mm. Corresponding 5 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm, and 10 mm cutters will also be available.
Is dust extraction necessary with the Kreg Edge?
During short sessions, dust extraction is not required with the Kreg Edge due to the built-in chip-relief slots in the base. For larger projects when dust collection is needed, it includes a 1¼" dust port. The increased airflow from the chip-relief slots on the base also make for highly effective dust collection in these instances.
How strong are loose tenon joints?
Loose tenon joints are comparable in strength to traditional mortise-and-tenon joints due to: - Increased glue surface area - Deeper, interlocking joints - Precise mortise alignment
