Good for new work and new rework

"This device is handy when you have new or new rework areas. I didn’t expect it to work in my 100+ year old house. The walls are rough cut 2x4,battons , and a mortar mix with a plaster finish. Nails are more like staples and. Sometimes an inch deep. The magnets don’t react to anything. But if I know where a stud is, I can put a screw in and then use the laser to mark the stud. My other stud finder uses a different method to find the studs, but has no laser."

"This Stud Finder really helps you see the path a stud may take behind sheetrock. I have a few other finders without the laser, and this is the best to work with. It does have a problem holding the wall if your wall is textured as mine are but that is not the finder's fault."

It looks awesome I saw video but it talks a lot about metal stud and screws but will it also find wood studs .: You will find the screw that the is screwed through the sheetrock into the wooden stud. That way you know there is a stud behind there.
Will it work through tile and cement board in a shower wall?: No, it will not work with that type of wall sheeting.
Will this find nails in a piece of wood like a 4x4 by just running it across the wood?: This will find a metal nail/screw about 3/8" down under sheetrock mud. It has not been test for metal under lumber.
Does it work with lath and plaster walls: This will work to find screws that are roughly 3/8" down under mud on sheetrock walls.
Will this work through carpet or floorboards to find floor joists?: No, this will not work for that application.
Does it differentiate between nails/screw fasteners and live electrical lines and/or conduit or plumbing lines?: No this will find the screw in the sheet rock up to 1/2" back.
Does it work on plaster board/sheetrock,making many holes trying to find studs.: This will work with sheetrock to find the screws that are just below the surface under the mud.

Does this work with lathe and plaster walls?: It’s completely dependent on the depth the of the fastener used to attach the wall material. The magnets used in the stud finder can detect a fastener buried up to a maximum of .150” in depth from wall surface. A typical drywall fastener is typically around .035-.050” in buried depth.
