Wall studs, 2x4s, and other boards commonly used in home building are commonly referred to as “construction lumber,” “dimensional lumber,” or simply “lumber.” These boards are all cut to standard sizes, such as 2x4, 2x6, 4x4, etc. Studs and construction lumber can also be used for other types of projects. Keep in mind, though, these boards are designed for strength and uniformity, not for an attractive appearance.
