DIY Updates Any Homeowner Can Do
Adding hardware is often one of the last—and one of the most important—steps in completing a project. But it doesn’t have to be intimidating. This month in Kreg Plus, we’ll share tips and tools that will help you get professional-quality results when building projects with doors, drawers, and adjustable shelves.
DIY Cabinet Doors
Installing concealed hinges on cabinet doors can be challenging. The hole for the hinge must be positioned at a precise distance from the door edge, and at a consistent distance from the top or bottom of the door. Plus, the holes must be drilled straight and to the correct depth using a 35mm bit. That’s why lots of people rely on a drill press.

A jig like the Kreg Concealed Hinge Jig can simplify the process. It allows you to install concealed hinges easily and accurately—as many times as you need to—using an ordinary drill. Watch this video to see how easy it is.
Install Knobs & Pulls for a New Look
Whether you’re updating your kitchen or building your own project that has drawers or doors, installing knobs and pulls is a critical final step. That hardware must be positioned precisely to look good. If one piece is crooked or out of position, it sticks out like a sore thumb. The best way to avoid that is to use a template or a jig.

This Kreg Cabinet Hardware Jig is a great example. You just set it up once, and then drill all your holes using the jig to guide your bit. See it in action.
Create Adjustable Shelving
Adjustable shelves add a lot of versatility to any bookcase, cabinet, or storage project. All you need to do is drill a series of holes to accept shelf pins. To ensure your shelves sit flat and won’t wobble, you need to make sure all the holes are spaced consistently and straight. This can be tough to do if you try to measure, mark, and drill without any type of guide.

The solution is to use a jig like the Kreg Shelf Pin Jig. It has guides that allow you to drill holes at exact, consistent spacing every time. Plus, the drill guides ensure that all the holes will be straight, and a stop collar on the bit produces the perfect hole depth. Watch this video to see how it’s done.
Install Drawer Slides Easily
When you’re building projects with drawers, installing the slides can be one of the most challenging tasks. You need to attach one side of the slide inside the cabinet or case, and the other side to the drawer. And both parts of the slide need to be level, positioned properly, and aligned with one another.

You can make the process easy with an installation jig like the Kreg Drawer Slide Jig. Watch this video to see how it works.
