  Deck Jig
kervin - kappelmann   (Thursday, November 15, 2012)

I rebuilt my breezeway deck this summer using composite decking & the deck jig. Jig worked fine except it is a little flimsy & expensive for what it is. It could be a little stouter because if you push or lean on it a little hard it tends to give & cause you to not drill hole properly.

I built 9-dock sections 10ft by 4ft to replace my old dock. The deck gig allowed for side fastening thus providing additional safety for my grandchildrens bare feet, increasing the holding power of the screws and reducing the screws exposure to the weather. The decking is separate from the frame thus reducing weigh for installation and removal. My family comes from a long line of woodworkers dating back to pre-colonial times and I can remember always being taught that the skill of a woodworker is not only used on the projected but also is critical to creating the jigs that make the project easier to make. Thanks Kreg.

Great Tool!! Totally recommend it. Installed a 12 x 20 deck without a single hitch. Over 1280 screws and not one stripped head or dulled drill bit. I too thought it was a bit expensive until I saw the quality of the job, it was more than worth the cost.

I recently purchased the jig and I am very pleased with it. Be prepared to have two drills available if you want to speed up the painfully slow process. One to drill the hole and the other to turn the deck screw in the board. Other than that I would recommend the jig to anyone.

I purchase this jig this past summer to rebuild my back deck flooring. This jig worked great (except along the wall). I love the way my deck looks now without the appearance of nail or screws showing. Pros - Easy to use, sturdy. Cons- Doesn't work along walls where the jig can't be placed, Drill bit is expensive.I dropped mine and it broke into 3 pieces. I had to spend another $20.00 for a replacement, having to constantly work with two drills was the quickest way but wore me out. All in all, it worked great despite the steep price for the jig and replacement bit.Mitch

Where has this tool been all my life.

This makes screwing down decking board like mycroscopic as oppsed to invasive surgery.

A great thing about this fastening system is not only that there is no chance of the screw popping out and hurting someones foot but as well if you only have less than half of a supporting joist below you are not trying to screw into it but more toe screw into the joist below.

This is a product I will always use in the future as it is safe, visually pleasing without being a more expensive clip system that does the same thing but and is cost effective because you do not have to buy the special clip and edge routed deck board type.
